When it comes to planning your own activities you might want to ask for advice from another group that has done something similar already, or you might want to consult a more expert group.

Here are some examples of regionally-based expert groups that might be able to help.
Community Energy England was founded in 2014 by practitioners within the community energy sector to act as the voice of the sector and help put people at the heart of the energy system. In the years since, our membership has grown to over 280 community energy organisations and a range of other stakeholder organisations. We have cemented this position and steadily increased our expertise, activities, impact and membership, whilst remaining the only organisation dedicated to representing and supporting the community energy sector in England. This work is underpinned by our uniquely extensive network and connections within the sector and amongst relevant government and other stakeholders.
All our work is intended to help clear obstacles, create connections between practitioners and stakeholders, and facilitate the work of community energy organisations, thereby benefiting the sector as a whole. We are there to help when issues and policy changes affect community energy organisations\’ ability to create and implement projects”.
CEE\’s membership network includes active practitioners, stakeholders and supporters across the country. Join us to connect to other organisations in the sector, learn, create collaborations and overcome barriers. Our network is vibrant and determined and we\’d love you to be part of it.
Membership is open to any organisation which supports community energy, including unincorporated groups who may be at the early stages of developing projects. Most experienced participants in the English sector are members of Community Energy England. Find out more here.

The Zero Carbon Yorkshire Buildings working group is made up of a wide range of building professionals, businesses, activists and academics from across the Yorkshire region. It is now also affiliated to the AECB as the AECB Yorkshire group. The group meets three times a year in Leeds and has identified the following areas to work on initially:
- Promotion of Passivhaus low energy building standard (for newbuilds) to local authorities and housing associations within Yorkshire.
- Exploring solutions to the financial, political and technical challenges posed by the need to undertake radical retrofits of existing buildings within Yorkshire.
- Promote low carbon building and showcase local exemplar projects within Yorkshire through conferences and websites.
- Exploring appropriate low carbon energy sources for ultra low energy buildings

“We campaign for a cycle friendly Sheffield where anyone can choose to make their journey by bike. We want cycling to be inclusive and easy, not limited to the quick and the brave.
We meet with local politicians and decision-makers and represent the voice of people in Sheffield who want their city to provide active transport options that give everyone the freedom to get around by bike. We’re a voice for everyday cycling with the local media and on the council agenda. We respond to plans which will affect transport and cycling, assess them and, where needed and possible, propose alternatives solutions.
We are a voluntary organisation with over 1850 supporters”.

Regather is a community benefit society working to improve food and build community in Sheffield. We run an organic farm, veg box scheme, and many other community projects.
Our priorities are:
- More sustainably sourced food
- More locally based economics
- More democratically controlled systems
We not only grow and deliver food, but we also contribute to the development of local food infrastructure through our research and development work. A role now supported as part of the South Yorkshire Sustainability Centre. Regather has been campaigning for fairer access to a food system that is more accountable and sustainable for many years. Whether that is unlocking land for organic growing, plant propagation & composting, creating new community orchards or insisting that food producing skills are taught in schools. We will keep on advocating for a food system that is better for people and for the planet.
