One street in Shefield has created its own ‘re-use’ scheme through WhatsApp.

It started as a Covid support group but subsequently evolved into a much broader neighbourhood group as restrictions were lifted and now actively involves 35 households. A key feature is the regular circulation of household items for re-use by others.

Up to 10 items are typically advertised each week, sometimes many more. They range from books to bookcases, and toys to tables. An unintended bonus is that local events related to climate and nature issues are now being posted on the site with a growing involvement of residents in volunteering to help out. It has made participating in things like this very normal at a very local level.
