Environmental Pride In Doncaster

City of Doncaster Council and St Leger Homes have been helping resident groups deliver environmental improvement projects through ‘Environmental Pride’.  The kind of support community groups can request includes grant funding, volunteer support and business advice.  For more details: https://www.yourlifedoncaster.co.uk/environmental-pride

Examples of community action include:

  • Seed to Feed organised by the Whinfell Community Group in Adwick, Doncaster. This group grows produce for community lunch meals and to distribute for free to less mobile residents.  It has now redesigned its planter beds to make them accessible to all;
  • Adventuring Angels, a community organisation based in Conisbrough.  They are developing a local Forest School area – planting new trees and hedgerows, a wild meadow, developing a pond, reducing the flow of rainwater passing through the site, building compostable toileting facilities and installing raised planter beds;
  • The Cambeth Community Project (CCP) which provides for young people and adults with SEND. CCP organises ‘litter picking lunches’ which provide education about recycling and planet conservation, as well as encouraging community cohesion and pride in the local environment.  CCP is now looking to create a sensory light garden using recycled materials, and
  • The Thornham Community Group in Armthorpe has revitalised an allotment that had become neglected and overgrown and given it back to the community.  Now led by volunteers, this community garden space is open to all who wish to volunteer, grow food and connect to nature with other likeminded individuals.
