Telling Climate Stories – How the Climate Reality Project communicates
This interactive workshop will explore how the Climate Reality Project meets the communication challenges around climate change.
About this event
Tim Elliott and Alison Lally are certified Climate Reality Leaders, two of 36,000 leaders from across the globe who make up The Climate Reality Leadership Corps, founded by former US Vice President Al Gore. They will explain how the Project communicates effectively in its famous ‘Truth in 10’ presentation. (https://www.climaterealityproject.org/truth) Tim and Alison will describe how Climate Reality leaders are trained and supported to be able to present and communicate, balancing ‘agency’ and ‘urgency’. There will be two breakout sessions with exercises, so you will have practical knowledge and skills to take away.
This will be a valuable opportunity for people in the UK to learn more about one of the world’s most high-profile climate leadership programmes, targetted on people from all walks of life. The Climate Reality Project states:
“We believe real change comes from the ground up. We know that a small-but-committed critical mass of activists can not only transform society, but change the world. That’s why we recruit, train, and mobilize people to become powerful activists, providing the skills, campaigns, and resources to push for aggressive climate action and high-level policies that accelerate a just transition to clean energy. ”
The facilitators
Alison Lally is a climate activist and a Climate Reality Leader.
“After completing my degree in philosophy at the University of Sheffield, I qualified as a chartered accountant with EY. I spent the rest of my corporate career in the public sector. While my initial roles were in finance, I always gravitated to developing people. In the Civil Service I had the opportunity to make people and organisational development my full-time role, which was a privilege and delight. I also qualified as a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
I have recruited over a thousand people. I developed learning and career management strategies. I led the design and set-up of the cross-government Finance Fast Stream, the Civil Service’s graduate accountancy training scheme. I now run my own business, facilitating people to find more joy and less stress and pressure in their lives. For more information see my website: www.alisonlally.com.”
Tim Elliott is a Design Strategist, Entrepreneur In Residence, Climate Reality Leader & Ultra marathon runner.
“I spent the first 20 years of my career in creative industries working on brand and marketing strategies that help brands be meaningful to the people they reach. Today I am a practitioner of the human-centred design way of thinking and doing and I facilitate workshops that help organisations deal with the communication and behaviour challenges around becoming responsible.
Outside of this work, you will probably catch me running around the hills and trails of the UK as I hold my hands up and admit I am a fully-fledged member of the ‘cult of running. I love the challenge of ultramarathon and trail running and am a proud member of the ‘Run The Country Ultra’ crew who is using running to raise awareness and start conversations around mental health for CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably.)
