The Big One – South Yorkshire Goes to London
SCA and partner groups have regularly lobbied local and regional government but we recognise that often they can do very little without the right national policies, funding and infrastructure being in place. The real problems lie with national Government.
We’re joining Extinction Rebellion Sheffield and many others to stage one of the biggest climate protests the UK’s ever seen! We’re calling groups and organisations across South Yorkshire to join us for one or more of the 4-day event taking place in London from Friday 21st April to Monday 24th.
It’s expected 100,000 people will surround Parliament to protest the multiple crises of our time including climate change, biodiversity loss, war, fuel poverty and the cost of living crisis. XR has changed its approach – this time it’s about attendance, not arrests; to get the attention of the Government, not disrupt the public.
It’s the largest climate and nature-inspired national demonstration since covid. Steph Howlett, from XR Sheffield, said: “We want people who don’t see themselves as activists to feel comfortable to come. It’s all about building a fairer and greener world. It belongs to all groups and organisations attending. It’s set to be a landmark event you’ll be glad to be a part of.”
